This month’s theme is aimed towards building a supportive community, and genuine friendship among fellow alumni and friends in the big city (that surprisingly can be lonely sometimes!). Forget the small talk and awkward glances, we encourage you to open up with ice breakers and deep questions to be distributed at the event! Bring a friend or two and leave with many! The following is a detailed overview of the event:

We are excited to bring everyone together after a hiatus due to the pandemic and to honor Weili Cheng YC '77, who will be retiring this year after more than seven years as executive director of the Yale Alumni Association (YAA) and many years of service to the Yale community.

Join us for appetizers during cocktail hour, a meal with a musical performance from Specially Processed American Me by Jaime Sunwoo YC '14, and an auction, which will feature special items donated by author Min Jin Lee YC '90, visual artist Benedict Scheuer YC '14, ceramicist Jacqi Lee YC '14, and chef Lucas Sin YC '15.

One of the goals of the gala is to raise $10,000 to support our Mary Li Hsu Community Service Fellowship, which provides funding to Yale College students to work with NYC-based Asian American-centered organizations in social services, civic engagement, and the arts. Past partner organizations for the fellowship include MinKwon Center for Community Action, Immigrant Social Services, Asian American Writer's Workshop, and Museum of Chinese in America. Mary Li Hsu was a Director of the Asian American Cultural Center Director, Yale College Assistant Dean, and a dedicated member of and advocate for the Asian American community at Yale and in New York.
